If you're anything like me, you might sometimes struggle to find the motivation to squeeze in a workout. I've realised that preparing to go and workout is sometimes half the battle! So my top tip is to select your workout clothes in advance of your training session, whatever and whenever it might be, for extra motivation. Lay out your workout clothes before you go to bed so that they are staring you in the face in the a.m. It works, I swear! It's time saving, eliminates decision making and is a great habit to get into.
I'm not one for a super-duper early morning workout (or an early morning anything come to that!) as I prefer a mid-morning or afternoon workout when I'm working from home, but this trick still applies! When I wake up, I get dressed straight into my workout clothes and while I'm pottering about, having breakfast and doing some work, it serves as a reminder of my good intentions.
If you are more of an evening gym-bunny, select your workout gear the evening before and pack it in a bag ready for an after-work stress reliever. I, however, prefer to avoid gym rush-hour so my evening workout would be after 7pm. Even so, I will still slip into my workout kit the minute I get home as it reminds me not to settle-down!
The point that I am trying to make is that whatever time of day you like to workout, get your workout clothes on at the earliest convenient point beforehand so that you are in the right frame of mind to stick to your plans. Hell, sleep in them if you have to! At least in winter they'll be warmed up ready!
What do you do to prepare for a great workout?
P.s. After taking the photo above, I left my gym clothes there all day and guess what I did when I took a desk-break? Pulled them on and headed to the gym for an impromptu 30 minute shot of cardio and returned to my work feeling revitalised!
